About Carmela Hobbins
Carmela is of Italian heritage with roots in Calabria in southern Italy. Her love of Italian cuisine was fostered by the Italian restaurant owned by her family in Des Moines, Iowa.
Inspired by her travels and studies at La Quercia in Italy, Carmela created her cucina to offer small group lessons in Italian cooking and entertaining.
Her experience spans years as the co-owner of the successful catering business Occasions Catering. Carmela's previous work as a classroom teacher and her love of Italian cooking make a perfect combination for teaching cucina classes.
Carmela frequently travels to Italy with the sole purpose of learning new cooking methods and recipes. In addition to her professional cooking, Carmela is the author or 2 cookbooks, her second book Celebrations with Carmela's Cucina is available now.
